| May | Bedser Trail official launch event Back in Feb 2009, together with Horsell Common Preservation Society we embarked on a rather ambitious project to build a mile long, all access circular trail at Woodham Common, Woking which is named in memory of Sir Alec & Erc Bedser, local sporting heros and longtime supporters of HCPS and has became affectionately known as ‘The Footpath Challenge’! What’s made this project so special is that it has been made entirely by volunteer-power (truly hand-crafted!), ranging from uniformed groups, youth clubs and corporate companies, but mostly people from the local communities giving up their Saturdays each month on our regular open working parties. In November 2011 the final wheelbarrow-load of Coxwell gravel was raked and compacted to complete the path… and now is the time to celebrate with the official launch event. So if you were one of our many amazing volunteers here’s a chance to revel in the glory of your acheivement or if you’ve never visited the site before and want to check out the quality of the workmanship, now’s your chance! The day will include a variety of events to appeal to everyone, from guided walks & talks, kids & family activities, bug hunts, wildlife trails and of course the actual ribbon-cutting bit too! It would be great to see as many people out enjoying the site as possible on this day so put the date in your diary now! Meet: new Woodham Common car park on Monument Road (just down from the Six Crossroads roundabout on the right hand side), Woking.
