Things to do
You can encourage wildlife into your gardens and local greenspaces with some simple and fun projects.
Take a look at our step by step guides for some exciting projects to do at home, at school or with a local group.

Build a birdbox
Why build a nest box? Many garden birds nest or roost in hollow trees and holes in trees. Unfortunately, these days most old and dying trees and branches, which offer the best nesting and roosting sites, are routinely cut down and removed. This leaves fewer places for birds to set up homes and raise families.
Specially constructed nestboxes imitate the holes and cavities in dead standing wood that are usually cleared away. A birdbox can be a real help to garden bird; an estimated 2 million fledglings are reared in nestboxes each year.

Make a stag beetle loggery
Stag beetles are Britain's largest terrestrial (ground-living) beetles, growing to between 5-8cm.They live in broad-leaved woodlands, especially oak, but can also be found in parks and gardens. Stag beetles need dead wood to complete their lifecycle. The eggs are laid underground by logs, or stumps of dead trees, and the larva (or grub) will spend up to seven years inside, slowly growing in size.

Make a Bug Hotel
This is your guide to building a 'Creature Comforts 5 Star Hotel' in your Greenspace. Bugs and minibeasts need natural nooks and crannies that often aren’t available in our tidy gardens, so this Bug Hotel creates a place for them to live in the garden. Make it a garden feature as it is as beatiful as it is versitile in habitats.Click here for more info
